Servo motor repair, tested on OEM drives

A failed servo motor stops an axis, and often the whole cell. AST overhauls, rebuilds and tests servo motors from all major manufacturers. Every motor is aligned and tested in our servo motor lab using OEM drives, OEM software and matching power supplies, so it runs the way it will on your machine.

We price each repair on what the evaluation finds. We don't quote a flat percentage of the cost of a new motor.

What a repair includes

  • Incoming evaluation and fault diagnosis
  • Complete overhaul or rebuild, based on what the evaluation finds
  • Feedback device alignment
  • Load and run testing on OEM drives with OEM software
  • Reproduced plastic covers and fan shrouds when originals are unavailable
  • One-year in-service warranty

Turnaround

Same-day emergency turnaround is available on most major servo motor brands. Same-day service depends on the fault found and on parts availability; we confirm the timing when we quote.

Rebuilt motor exchange

If you can't wait for a repair, ask about our emergency exchange program. We ship a rebuilt motor from stock for most major brands, and you return your failed core.

Process

How we rebuild a servo motor

  1. Incoming test

We record the nameplate, check insulation resistance and winding balance, and run the motor to confirm the reported fault.

  2. Teardown and cleaning

Full disassembly. Housings, shafts and windings are cleaned and inspected for coolant ingress, contamination and wear.

  3. Mechanical rebuild

New bearings and shaft seals. Brakes are tested for holding torque and air gap, then repaired or replaced. Shafts and keyways are checked.

  4. Electrical repair

Winding faults are corrected. Encoders or resolvers are repaired or replaced, and connectors and cabling restored.

  5. Alignment and run test

Feedback is aligned to the rotor, then the motor is run on the matching OEM drive with OEM software and checked for current draw, noise, vibration and temperature.

Diagnosis

Common servo motor failures

Symptoms that point to the motor

  • Overcurrent or overload alarms on one axis
  • Encoder, pulse coder or feedback alarms
  • Ground fault or insulation alarms
  • Noise, vibration or rough motion
  • Overheating
  • Brake won't hold or won't release
  • Coolant or oil inside the motor or connector

What we replace or repair

  • Bearings and shaft seals
  • Holding brakes
  • Encoders, pulse coders and resolvers
  • Windings and insulation
  • Connectors and feedback cables
  • Fan units and covers
  • Plastic covers and shrouds, reproduced in-house when obsolete

Questions

Servo Motor Repair FAQ

Is it worth repairing a servo motor instead of buying new?

Usually. We quote on the damage we find, so a minor fault gets a small repair quote.

How fast can you repair a servo motor?

Same-day emergency turnaround is available on most major brands. For timing on your motor, call 1-877-255-3385 with the model number.

How are repaired motors tested?

Each motor is aligned and run on high-quality lab equipment using OEM drives, OEM software and matching power supplies.

What warranty do you offer?

Repaired servo motors carry a one-year in-service warranty.

Can you help if the motor is obsolete?

Often, yes. We repair many discontinued motors, and our rapid prototyping shop can reproduce plastic covers and fan shrouds that are no longer sold.

Line down? Send us the part number.

Rush evaluations are completed the same day. Most quotes are based on the damage we find, not the price of a new unit.
